The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his child.

His son, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of Bolsonaro's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

It was only on Friday that the his legal team asked the High Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that the former president be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he needed frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

He was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a scheme which involved plans to murder Lula and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The scheme was stopped because it couldn't obtain the support of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without issue on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on January 8th, many his backers attacked and damaged public facilities in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been incited by him whose plan, they said, was for the country's army to step in, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, his attorneys called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also banned from running for public office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the next presidential race.
